reproductions & editions
Colourgenics works with many of Canada’s premier fine artists, photographers, and galleries to manage and produce fine art reproductions and editions.
Reproductions and editions can be done with our fine art giclée or chromogenic printers and media. We have generated in-house colour profiles for each media and utilize a sophisticated workflow to maintain and calibrate our printers to ensure control and consistency across the spectrum of materials we offer. Proofs are reviewed and approved by artists prior to production, and approved proofs are retained as references so you can be confident in receiving the same, stunning reproduction every time.
Pricing is determined by print size(s), paper selection, and quantity. Quantity discounts are available when printing multiple copies of the same image at the same time, and project pricing and bundling with other services is available with a quote.
Highlights of Our Reproductions and Editions Process:
Scanning
Reproductions of original artwork starts with our Uberscan to capture a high-resolution scan that captures life-like details like texture, brush strokes, and reliefs
If you have already had a scan done, we will still need to have your original on-site as a reference during the reproduction process
Range of scanning resolutions allow for reproductions at the same, or larger sizes
Proofing
Iterative, reproduction proofing on your selected print media to ensure colour and detail-accuracy
Approved proofs retained as references for future printing, providing artists & photographers with the option of printing just-in-time instead of all-at-once
Printing
Sophisticated workflow, in-house generated colour profiles and printer management & calibration to ensure consistency in your prints whether you are printing just-in-time or all-at-once
Variety of fine art giclee and photographic media available
Certificates of Authenticity can be provided by artist’s request

Reproductions & Editions faq
-
For critical reproduction requirements, we offer a Reproduction Proofing service, which entails iterative test proofs to match the original while it is still in-house. This routine is media and inkset specific, since each printing combination of inks/media exhibits its own characteristics responding to the scanned file.
A lighter version of proofing is the Verification Production Proof (our standard proof for all printing). It is, as the name implies, a single proof serving the purpose of confirming the scan as a “general” facsimile of the original. The criterion of acceptance is “pleasing colour and density” but it is by no means “a far cry” from the original.

No. Because of our sophisticated workflow of printer profile building and calibration, print runs at different times stay very consistent; therefore customers do not have to print out a whole edition at once, as was the case in days of old. Plus, if a lot of time has elapsed, we can proof against previously approved proofs or editions.
Instead, just-in-time ordering as the edition is sold represents the most cost effective proposition for you, the Artist.

Generally, yes. Please let us know if this is your intention at the start of your project as it will influence the resolution of the scan required for the best reproduction after enlarging the image.
However, note that there may be some limitations in ‘how big’ an image can be enlarged. Upon reviewing your originals, our team will discuss any potential challenges with you before finalizing the work order.
