film scanning
With top-of-the-line film scanners in our arsenal, our services are designed for artists and photographers that require expertise in film handling, processing, and colour optimization to not only preserve images forever, but also provide the best image quality for fine art prints, reproductions, and archival libraries.
Most film scans up to 4”x5” can be handled by our Imacon Flextight, which uses innovative virtual drum technology to capture the details from your film with up to 8,000ppi resolution. As a premium service, we also offer drum scanning with our Heidelberg Tango Drum Scanners, which can produce images up to 11,000ppi.
Pricing is determined by the scanners used and the desired output size (image dimensions and/or file size in megapixels). Due to the nature of our film scans which often involves film preparation, cleaning and handling, film scanning orders are subject to a $60+HST minimum. Quantity discounts are available when scanning 3+ pieces at a time, and project pricing and bundling with other services is available with a quote.
Imacon flextight scanner
The Imacon Flextight scanner is a purpose-built scanner that uses innovative virtual drum technology to capture high-resolution images with exceptional detail and colour accuracy. The Imacon bends originals around a virtual drum and passes them over a series of CCD sensors to produce sharp, detailed images. The adaptive, diffuse light source of the Flextight also helps adjust for atypical image densities, reduces the visibility of dust, and helps mask most artifacts without losing image sharpness.
The Imacon provides efficiency without sacrificing image quality, and is our most popular scan for film transparencies and negatives up to 4”x5”.
Highlights:
Scans up to 8,000ppi resolution
Handles a wide range of film formats including 35mm, 120mm, and large format up to 4”x5”
Diffuse light source reduces the visibility of dust and scratches
Masks almost all artifacts in images and most artifacts in damaged originals without losing sharpness
Adaptive lighting adjusts illumination for varied image densities to avoid noise in shadows of scans
High dynamic range to preserve full range of tones in original film
Virtual drum produces images without Newton rings which are often seen with physical drums
Heidelberg tango drum scanner
Drum scanning is considered to be the pinnacle of quality film scans, with Heidelberg widely recognized as the leader in drum scanning technology. The Tango can produce scans up to 11,000ppi with outstanding colour accuracy and detail, and minimal distortion.
